Dear Parents,

Happy March! One of the goals of our curriculum is to provide children with an appreciation of their world and stimulate their natural curiosity, and spring is the perfect time to do this. March activities will explore changes in nature, blossoming plants, insects and bugs, and outer space.

Another goal of our curriculum is to expose children to as many aspects of different cultures as we can. With this is mind, we are very happy to announce that we will be bringing Mandarin, the most spoken language in the world, to Future Kids. Ms. Zhong Zhi, or “Miss Lucy,” who has taught classes at Sunset Academy and is a native of China, will begin teaching Mandarin, as well as various aspects of the Chinese culture, to all of the children from PK3 to Afterschool, once a week. Classes will begin on March 7th for PK3 and the morning VPK students; and, on March 9th, for the afternoon VPK and After-school students.

We have a few updates for this month. Beginning the week of March 5th, Karate classes will move to Tuesdays and Thursdays. Since the weather is getting nicer and we want to encourage good health habits, we have decided to dedicate Wednesdays to “Fun & Fitness Days.” The children will enjoy outdoor sports, obstacle courses, and games and music.

Our VPK students have been invited to Morgan Levy Park, once again, for “Story Time” on March 6th. The bus will be leaving at 11:00 a.m. and returning by 1:00 p.m. The cost of the fieldtrip will be $5.00 which will cover the bus expense. If your child attends the afternoon VPK, he or she may come in the morning from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. instead, so that he/she can go on the fieldtrip. Please be sure to sign a permission form.

Spring Break will be the week of March 12 – 16. Please be advised that VPK will not be available during that week. We will, however, have Spring Camp with plenty of fun activities as well as a field trip to Jungle Island for the Campers on March 15th. The bus will be leaving at 9:30 a.m. Please make sure to sign all permission forms so that your child may go on the trip.

We are, once again, amazed by your generosity. Through the efforts of our families, we raised $892 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This is particularly meaningful to us as one of our children’s family members lost his life to Muscular Dystrophy on the same day of our Hop-a-thon. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Mayela Romero, who lost her grandfather, Carlos Romero.

We would like to thank Elvira Subirats (mother of Leila) who visited the afternoon VPK children on February 21st, the week of the Hop-a-thon. Being a Physical Therapist, Mrs. Subirats explained to the children about different muscles and how they work. She also demonstrated different exercises which are used to help children with weak muscles. The children had a great time.

Special thanks are also extended to Shaina Rodriguez, mother of Kayla, and Yesica Hurtado, mother of Anais Bermudez and VPK Teacher, for donating toys and books to the center. We are also grateful to Inmaculada Infante, mother of Marcelo Mazzei, for helping decorate the playground for the Hop-a-thon. We truly appreciate everything you do for us!

Many Thanks,

Future Kids
